Some of the main frustrations of working with Ubuntu stem from their desire and their execution to screw up every release. While 8.04 is not as bad as the jump from 6.10 to 7.04 and even 7.04 to 7.10 its still highly frustrating to see. Mandriva and PCLinuxOS are the only distros that I have come across, maybe Debian as well where hardware compatibility isnt hosed completely with every new release.
Moving along
March 14, 2008Now that PC/OS 7.10 has been released, we will be moving onto 8.04. I have been testing and submitting bugs for Xubuntu 8.04 for awhile. Here are some issues I have come across
Firefox 3 will not recognize the Xine plugin.
ndiswrapper has better support for Netgear drivers
XFCE 4.4.2 installed by default
Ristretto installed by default.
Some hardware drivers not working at all.
Some monitors not giving proper resolution
iPods and Sandisk Sansa 250 not being detected by default
So there are a few issues, some deeper issues. Some kernel panics exist, pulseAudio doesnt exactly work flawlessly. XFCE terminal keeps crashing the xServer so I had to install ROXTerm instead.
Here are some screenshots so far.
